LAMINATE & HARDWOOD INSTALLATION:
For those consumers who want a floor that is meant for active lifestyles, is easy to keep clean and fairly inexpensive, a laminate floor may be exactly what you are looking for. While it mimics the look of wood, laminate floors resist dents and stains that can mar hardwood surfaces. Also laminate can be used in any room of your home. Laminate flooring can be installed over many existing floors, including wood, tile, and linoleum. Most laminate flooring systems are floating, which means they do not fasten directly to the plywood subfloor with nails or glue.
Though when it comes to natural beauty, it's hard to beat the look and warmth of real hardwood flooring. Like most floor covering products, hardwood flooring has changed dramitcally over the past few years. I offer all the latest styles. There is a wide variety for you to choose from and with me you'll get expert installation. I can help you choose the right hardwood floor for your lifestyle and decor. Before choosing a hardwood floor, think of what type of look you are trying to achieve for the room. There are three basic types of looks: Contemporary, Formal, and Country.
For a more contemporary look, use a 2-1/4" or 3" wide floor boards in a clear, or select grade. This will give the room a more uniform color and a narrow line, modern look.
For a more formal, or dressy look, use a clear grade of 2-1/4 inch wide planks in the center of the room with a 12-inch wide perimeter or picture frame of the same wood parallel with the walls. A feature strip of a different wood species, either lighter or darker, installed around the edge of the center area would create a distinct elegant appearance.
For a more country feel, 4" to 8", or wider, planks would be appropriate. Hand forged antique cut nails can be installed for a colonial style. For country both light and darker colors are used.
HARDWOOD REFINISHING:
Hardwood is perhaps the most practical of all flooring materials. But over time, the protective finish may wear off, most noticeably in heavy traffic areas. This is the perfect time to refinish your wood flooring. Applying a modern new finish can even make hardwood floors much easier to maintain than when they were originally installed. Another good reason to refinish your hardwood floor is to freshen up the finish of a wood floor that's dulled from being hidden under carpet for years.
Anyone who's tackled a hardwood refinishing job can tell you it's a mess, starting with the removal of the previous finish. Hardwood flooring professionals have the knowledge and experience to give your wood floors a quality new finish. They also have the proper equipment to handle the job efficiently, including power sanders to remove the existing finish and to prepare the wood to accept a new stain. Unless you have experience in this area, it is not advisable to take on a project of this magnitude by yourself.
TIPS & INFO:
Drying Time - Just prior to applying the finish, the heat needs to be set at 71 degrees in order for the finish to dry. This takes about 6 to 8 hours.
DO NOT walk on the floors prior to being dry because imprints will occur. Appliances - Be careful when moving appliances. You should use a dolly or lay down plywood and move in the appliances over it. This is so the casters on the appliances won’t leave indentations in the finish
Furniture - Put fabric-faced glides on the legs of your furniture. They allow furniture to be moved easily without scuffing the floor. Clean the glides regularly because grit can become embedded in them. Some furniture may require barrel type roller casters, as ball type casters may cause damage. Grey, non-marking rubber casters are the best. Avoid any type of plastic caster.
Color Changes - Certain chemicals in wood oxidize in strong light, causing the wood to change color (weather or age) i.e.; develop patina. To avoid uneven appearance, move area rugs occasionally and drape or shade large west-facing windows. High Heels - Keep high heels in good repair. Heels that have worn down or lost their protective cap, exposing the steel support rod in the heel, will dent any floor surface, even concrete.
Animals - It is recommended that you clip your pets nails monthly or walk them on concrete to dull their nails.
Cracks and Squeaks
All the wood in your home will contract or expand depending on the moisture in the air. Doors and windows may swell and stick during rainy seasons. In dry, cold weather, cracks and fine lines of separation may appear in wall cabinets and furniture. This is characteristic of wood because wood is a product of nature, and its natural quality is what makes it desirable.
Cracks - Reaction to humidity, or the lack of it, is happening constantly in your wood floors. Tiny cracks between the edges of boards may appear when dry conditions are produced by your heating system. This can usually be REDUCED by installing a humidifier. With a proper balance of moisture in the house, both family and floors benefit from a healthier environment.
Periodic Care Recoating - When luster does not return in traffic areas such as doorways, kitchen sink, stove area, or hallways, the floor may need recoating. When this happens it’s time to call Floorever Wood for recoating.
